-> Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library
“Free to All” – this inscription above the main entrance of the Boston Public Library accords with the intention of the citizen, ground developer, manager and collector Norman B. Leventhal. He gifted his precious collection of historical maps to the Boston Public Library and initiated projects for their preservation, indexing and presenting them to the public. 200.000 maps and 5.000 atlases are gradually digitized and made available in an on-line database with different access points. Users can search for names of places and for bibliographic information as author, publisher and year of release . The maps themselves can be navigated individually with comfortable on-line tools. Training aids, on-line exhibitions and a “Map of the Month” complete this on-line resource.
